Lake Oahe, Missouri River - Saturday, February 4, 2012
The bite here on Oahe this winter seems to be one we will remember for a long time. Yesterday I had a couple D. I. Y. groups. I went with just to show them a few spots to set up. We started fishing around 10:30 and easily could of kept a good limit of walleyes by 12:00. We had four overs in that amount of time along with a good number of fish in the 17 to 19 in. range. Mix in a occassional pike, perch, catfish, white bass and some huge small mouths and I'm not sure how fishing can get much better. We have the kids tournament today here on Swan Creek so I look to see the kids have a great day. There has been good numbers of smaller eyes and a mixture of other species caught right in the bay everyday. I will even predict the some lucky youngsters should catch a big one. I will report how this turns out early next week.

Lake Oahe, Missouri River - Thursday, January 26, 2012
We did get out fishing the last few days here in the Akaska area and it is exactly what everyone has said it was. Incredible. We have went different directions each time out and found success everytime. Finding a few big fish mixed in with the good eaters each time out. Tonights bite came shallower than the past three nights, we were able to catch a good number of fish under 20 fow. We did find some success on set lines, but the jig bite was great. Lindy flying jigs worked really good, but it didn't seem to make much difference once the fish moved in. We did get a couple catfish, some pike and a couple crappies mixed in. We are up and running full steam with ice fishermen so please feel free to call or email for reservations. |

Lake Oahe, Missouri River - Monday, October 24, 2011
The walley bite seems to have tapered off somewhat. I am not saying that it is bad, but it is not quite as good as it has been. Most of the fish have been coming on bouncers with crawlers or minnows, but some are coming on jigs. Many of our pheasant hunters have been able to fish too, because of the excellent hunting. We would like you to check out a video of our opening weekend pheasant hunt at http://www.aimfishing.com/View-Video/4503/Pheasant-Opener-2011-OWW It was reported that the numbers of birds was down statewide, but we have been fortunate to have an amazing amount of birds! Feel free to email with any questions or to make a reservation! Have a great week.

Lake Oahe, Missouri River - Friday, July 29, 2011
The last couple days the action has been hot and heavy here in the Swan Creek area. Today there were several boats back in before noon with limits of great eater size walleyes. The majority of the fish being caught are from 14-17 in. If a person goes through enough you can wait out a bigger limit, but most everybody I talk to seem to be very happy with 16" fish with an occasional bigger one thrown in . Both crank baits and live bait seems to be working right now. Most of the fish are coming in 11-20fow. Lots of limits and some pretty good weather lately is leading up to a great tournament the second week of Aug. If your not in the SD walleye classic you only have until the 1st of August to sign up so please don't wait. We did pick up a few more entries this past week, so it looks to be a great tournament, but there is still room for more teams. If you are not a fishermen there are a ton of activities for everybody. Check out the web page at www.sdwalleyeclassic.com.

Lake Oahe, Missouri River - Tuesday, July 12, 2011
This past week has been very good in the Swan Creek area. Most groups are still bringing in good limits of walleyes along with a good number of northerns, catfish, crappies and small mouth bass. It does seem like the bite is a little tougher than it was a week ago, but still it would be hard to complain. I ran out tonight at 6 pm with another guy and we had our 8 walleyes in less than two hours. We let go 2 fish that were over 22 in. and kept a limit from 16 to 19in. The fish tonight were in 10 to 12 fow. and didn't seem to matter if you had on a spinner or a plain hook. The pike seem to really like the spinners right now. I have done some crappie fishing in the past couple weeks and it has been good for the most part. I seem to do better locating a group and then parking on them with a 1\16 oz fuzzy grub and a minnow. We normally catch a few walleyes and northerns mixed right in with the crappies. We are having Senior day tomorrow for the SD Walleye Classic so we should have a great day with some of the local Seniors from around the area. I will post some pics and a report on how the day went later in the week.

Lake Oahe, Missouri River - Sunday, June 26, 2011
This past week has brought some interesting weather, but the walleyes didn't seem to notice. I have been fishing close to home for the most part. The last two days I spent a lot of time up the Moreau, the bite has been very good up there. We go through a bunch of fish in the 13 to 15 in. range to get a good limit. Our overs up there seem to be a little bigger, but the overall size seems to be a bit smaller than the main body. Today I stayed on the mouth of Swan Creek both north and south within a mile. The bite started slow for me on keepers, but when i did get on a group of good fish it was pretty easy. We caught a bunch of fish from 16 to 23 in, most of the fish came from 6 to 10 fow. Crawlers are the best, but we did put some nice fish in on leeches. Later in the day we pulled some cranks and did very well doing that too. Ramps are still in great shape and very little to no wait to launch.. Also check out the new format for the South Dakota walleye Classic for August. Team/co. The best teams in the area will go head to head and along the way give a co-angler the chance to learn and win some money at the same time.. Only accepting a 60 team field, so don't wait to get in.. Hope to see you on the water..

This past week has been incredible in the Swan Creek area. We are now seeing all sizes of walleyes including numbers of fish over 22 in. I have went in 3 different directions in the last three days and have had great luck each day. My big fish the last two days have come under 8 fow. We have taken fish on crawlers, leeches and minnows. The minnows have been the best, but all three baits are producing. This week the number of non-keeper fish is a little better. We still catch a bunch, but the ratio is much better. I have went looking for the crappies and done well, but not as good as last year, yet. 10 to 15 a day seems to be about the best so far, but a couple nice weather days and they will start up strong. We do have both ramps open still here at Swan Creek, and the GFP have done a great job keeping them at usable levels. Hope to see everybody on the water. |

The bite in the Moreau River Area has been hot all week. For the most part everybody that gets to put in a long day have been getting limits. Yesterday in the hurricane was an exception, because high winds limited the fishable areas. Everyone does seem to have a different method for catching their fish, which is a good indication that the fish are not very picky. Pulling cranks like Lindy Shadlings and Flickershads has been very productive, bouncers with minnows, crawlers and leeches is also really good. 16 fow on in seems to be the best, but some deeper fish are beeing caught. Today was the first day I was able to get fish to hit spinners and crawlers consistently, before today a plain hook was much better. We also caught a bunch of crappies, small mouth bass, catfish, northern and white bass along with our walleyes. Everyday there seems to be a larger number of year classes mixed in with the better fish. Today we would catch three small walleyes and the next would be a great keeper. All the different sizes and variety of species makes for a great day on the water. |

Lake Oahe, Missouri River - Monday, March 7, 2011
Again this past week has brought some excellent fishing. This isn't saying that it was easy. We are still on the one to two days bite on a spot and then the search begins again. The nice thing is that we have fished a large portion of the area this winter and the fish seem to be back on the same spots we caught them on earlier. In the past ten days I have caught fish on the Mouth of Swan, mouth of the Moreau, Bone pile, north end of the Bar and accross from Bowdle Beach. The pattern is that you get 1 to 2 days of good action, then the fish get small and other fish become more abundant. The catfish, perch, white bass and pike are fun, but it usually means the bite is going the wrong way. The good news is everytime I needed to find new fish they seem to be around. Some days it takes two to three spots before i find them, but knock on wood, so far we have everytime. Most of the fish have come from 20 to 32 fow. and this changes daily also, but 28 to 32 seems to be the most consistant. The Lindy darter seems to be able to keep some of the small fish away long enough to catch some better ones. The rattlin flying spoon is always a good numbers jig. Even on a good day we still go through numbers of little fish to get out limits of nice ones. But when the bite is right, the small ones are 13 to 14 inchers. When it gets tough they get smaller, that's when it is time to move on. I will be at the Sport show in Sioux Falls this weekend, stop by Doug's Anchor Marine booth and say "hi". See some of you there.. |
