Lake Oahe, Missouri River - Monday, March 15, 2010

Saturday had us back out of Swan Creek, fishing was very active.  More walleyes were caught this week.  However, the majority consisted of small mouth bass, catfish, and small perch.  The fish on Saturday were found in 35 to 45 fow.   We did put out set lines, but had no success with them...the fish came all on jigs.  We ended up with 9 good keepers fishing from 11 a.m to 4 p.m.  One of the small mouths that we caught was pushing 5 lbs.  Sunday found us in the same area north of Swan Creek.  The fishing was slow.  We worked really hard for the 9 walleyes that were kept.  I think that we would have done better if we would have moved into shallower water earlier in the day.  Seven of the nine keepers were nicer fish and we found those in 14 to 18 fow.  Again, all came on jigs.  3/8 oz silver jigmaster was by far the best.  On Sunday, we did not catch a single small mouth after catching at least 10 the day before.  We fished from noon to dark on Sunday and the best bite came right before dark in the shallow water.  This morning, Monday, we were on the ice by 8 am and the fishing was good right away in the shallow waters again.  We missed a couple and caught two nice keepers and then the bite died shortly thereafter.  We worked until noon and keeping only two more nicer fish from the deep water (35 to 45 fow).  Ice conditions  are decent, however the shore line has approximately 18 inches of water and is getting deeper each day.  I will try to get out over the next few days, but with the predicted warmer temps, we will see how the week progresses.  If you do venture out , please be careful.
