Report Details
Today was probably one of the best bites of the summer in the Akaska area. I didn't talk to one boat that didn't catch fish and most that I talked to were done early with very nice limits. My father-in-law and my sister-in-law were able to catch a quality limit in less than 2 hours. This was the first time for a limit for them all year, congrats Jim and Teri, we were beginning to wonder! Our three boats all had a great day with limits and nice fish early in the day. All of our fish came from the Moreau River in the last two days and the depths ranged from 5 to12 fow. The plug bite has come on strong but the bait bite is also still very good. Bouncers with just about any lead seems to work. There were some very good reports from north of the Moreau on both sides of the lake, most of these reports came from bait fishermen, but I would guess the cranks would work there too. There definitely is more boats out than we are used to for July, but with the two ramps, good parking, and five slots to launch there has been no problem getting in and out of the water quickly in the Swan Creek area. The bite is spread out enough and strong enough that the traffic doesn't have any effect on the day. There are way more areas without boats and most of those areas seem to have fish on them too. We do have rooms available...feel free to contact us at sschilling@venturecomm.net. Another thing....mark your calendars for August 10th to the 15th. This is the South Dakota Walleye Classic and Festival! There are openings yet for both pros and cos, so you can go to www.aimfishing.com to sign up. Let's shoot for more anglers than they had in Green Bay. For all of you spectators, there is entertainment, arts in the park, bull-o-rama, ranch rodeo, and much more! Check out all the events at www.sdwalleyeclassic.com.
